Press Release: Ozark Folklife Festival
The Ozark Folklife Festival will take place on Saturday, September 23 at Tyler Bend from 10am to 5pm. We welcome everyone to celebrate the heritage of the Ozarks as this event brings traditional Ozark artists and craftspeople together in the park for a day of musical performances and demonstrations.
Possum Juice, Harmony, Ozark Hellbenders, Rackensack Folklore, and Southern Tradition Bluegrass will perform throughout the day at the Tyler Bend Pavilion. Traditional clogging will be demonstrated by the Buffalo River Cloggers. There will also be a picking square where musicians and visitors can take part in some informal pickin’ and grinnin’.
Come and learn about the way life used to be in the Ozarks in the mid-1800s to early 1900s. Demonstrations and displays in the Tyler Bend Picnic area include storytelling, old time children’s games, flint knapping, quilts, weaving, wool spinning, and a mandolin maker. The Searcy County Quilt Guild will be tying a quilt and visitors are invited to help to make the quilt ready for charity.
Finally, join us for some traditional Ozark food at the Tyler Bend Pavilion. Pulled pork sandwiches, beans, ham, cornbread and desserts inlcuding chocolate rolls, fried pies and ice cream will be available.
Come join us for a day of Ozark fun, music and food. Park volunteer Linda Glass will demonstrate caning techniques at this year’s festival.
