6th Annual Ozark Historic Cemetery Stroll with Abby Burnett, Saturday, April 14, 10 a.m.
April 14 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Join Abby Burnett as she leads our 6th annual Ozark Historic Cemetery Stroll on Saturday, April 14. We will meet at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boxley at 10 a.m. to begin our tour. To get to Walnut Grove Cemetery, from the junction of Hwy. 43 and Hwy. 21, go 1/2 mile south on Hwy. 21. You will see Boxley Baptist Church on the right. The cemetery is next to it. Additional information and directions to the other cemeteries will be given to participants at Walnut Grove.
In addition to Walnut Grove Cemetery, we’ll stop at Beechwood, Low Gap and Jasper cemeteries. Bring your water, a lunch and we’ll eat lunch in Jasper’s Bradley Park. We’re making arrangements for a few of the descendants of the early settlers who are buried in these cemeteries to join us and talk a little about their ancestors and their contributions to the area.
Abby is the author of several articles and a new book published in 2016, Gone to the Grave: Burial Customs of the Arkansas Ozarks. She was featured in “Silent Storytellers,” a documentary about cemeteries and stone carvers in the Ozarks.
In case of rain, the stroll will be rescheduled at a later date.
